Eons is a venture funded Internet startup founded by Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor, and has been in business for a little over 2 years. LightWire began providing services to Eons in January of 2006, replacing their previous provider who was terminated for poor customer service. LightWire designed and deployed all aspects of Eons’ IT infrastructure, spanning across 2 locations, for its corporate operations and its approximately 80 users. This infrastructure is an advanced mix of a highly routed Windows 2003 with Exchange 2003 network, Windows XP clients in laptop and desktop formats, Macintosh OS X laptops and desktops, and Linux laptops and desktops. The network includes approximately 70 VoIP telephone handsets communicating to an open-source VoIP PBX, a Fiber Channel and iSCSI storage array network (SAN), 10 corporate servers and approximately 20 software development servers. EONS leverages LightWire’s network monitoring platform, as well as its anti-spam service. LightWire deployed a few highly effective solutions for the company: an open-sourced PBX allowed the company to enable call-center capabilities for its 80 staff members in a new building at a fraction of the cost of the $50-75K purchase of a new 'traditional' telephone system. Additionally, LightWire deployed a 'free space optics' (a laser beam) network link between the 2 EONS office buildings, enabling high-speed, secure network connectivity to the corporate network for staff in both buildings. Finally, since the physical location of the EONS corproate office was limited to service by T1 Internet connectivity, LightWire deployed a WiMAX Internet connection from PipeLine Wireless, allowing for relatively inexpensive, high bandwidth connectivity, a solution that has proved to be flawless. |
